Doncaster Races

These are just my bets/picks, which I share hoping they’re decent.  If you do any of these on my say so, bet entirely at your own risk, thanks for looking.

Doncaster 3.05 The William Hill Lincoln Handicap

Swiftly Done 25/1
Has had 22 races, finished in the first 3 11 times, winning 1 of 3 Class 2 races.  Won 4 of last 8 races at a mile. Big price but at 4 places each way I’m having a go.  Has won on Soft aswell.  Jockey is a 7lb claimer I’ve never heard of though, so is risky.

Chapter Seven 11/1
Is a C&D winner on Soft ground.  Only had 2 starts on Soft, won both, the other being at York. Graham Lee rides.

These are the 2 I was initially on last week before the meeting was cancelled, and I’m on again today.  Luckly they are still roughly the same prices.

BIG PRICES: I haven’t bet on these two (hope that’s not a mistake), but I think they’re worth a mention: Majestic Myles 40/1, Chosen Character 28/1.

Doncaster 1.20

Thunderball 14/1
A superb record of 3 wins from 3 races at 6 furlongs on Soft ground.

Spinatrix 10/1
Very consistent.  Form on Soft: 1322. 27% win and 93% place at 6 furlongs.  Again another unknown 7lb claimer onboard.

Doncaster 4.15

The Lockmaster 10/1
This is  a horse I keep an eye on.  Never seems to run a bad race, although just lately hasn’t produced the goods on the all weather since winning at Southwell. Trainer Michael Appleby has confirmed my thoughts to why this is.  Today could be a different matter.  Won 2 of last 3 10 furlong races, all on turf.  Has won here before.

Kempton Each Way Lucky 15
2.20 Robin Hoods Bay 2/1
2.55 Buckland 7/1
4.05 Spirit of Sharjah 25/1
4.35 Seek The Fair Land 16/1

Warning: I know virtually nothing about Dubai Racing
But Meydan Each Way Lucky 15
1.10 Moonwalk In Paris 9/1
2.25 Shuruq 8/1
3.45 Krypton Factor 9/1
4.40 Sajjhaa 7/1

I’m not very good on jumps but thought I’d try for a change, rather than do All Weather everyday.

Taunton, Huntingdon, Doncaster + 1 at Wolverhampton.

These are just my picks, very small stakes, and I can’t recommend you do them just on my say so…

Ailsa Craig at Doncaster Lincoln Meeting – 31st March

April 1, 2012 Leave a comment

Ailsa Craig after the race

Yesterday was the start of the Flat season for 2012, and the big race to signify this is the William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.

The race was won by Brae Hill, ridden by Tony Hamilton, who was also the jockey for Ontoawinner’s Ailsa Craig in the 4.55pm 1m 2f Handicap.

It was a chilly day, but there were plenty of racegoers out in force, many of whom must have been freezing with their choice of attire.  Whereas watching on At The Races today it’s the total opposite, sunny and a lot less people there.

Ailsa Craig in the parade ring

Ontoawinner very kindly invited me to join them as one of their guests for the day.  We spent most of the afternoon in the Owners & Trainers bar, but I went out to watch every race rather than watch on the TV’s in there.

Betting wise I didn’t have any winners, but when you see the prices of them I’m guessing not many people did.
It was definitely a bookies day.  I always think Doncaster is like that.  Always big priced winners.

It was still a very good experience though, the Ontoawinner team are very good company and make you feel welcome.  If you are debating whether to take the step into racehorse ownership they are a worthy Syndicate option to consider.  They’ve only been going since May last year and had a tremendous season – ending with 6 winners and 17 placed from only 6 horses.  They start this campaign with 10 horses and aim to achieve even more success.

Ailsa Craig strides home

As for Ailsa Craig, things didn’t go her way.  She tired on the home straight and finished near the back, but it was her first race for nearly 6 months, so will come on for the run.

She did win something though: Best Turned Out!  Which speaking to the lads yesterday is something she regularly gets awarded.
Her trainer Edwin Tuer, won the same award at Doncaster today aswell with his only runner The Blue Banana.

It was a very good day out, and thank you to Ontoawinner for their kind hospitality. If you would like to experience a day as an owner and all the benefits that go with it on a try before you buy basis, then enter their competition every time Ailsa Craig races, as they hold a prize draw for free owners badges!

MOSSLEY - pic: Espn

Thanks for looking at my Blog.  Quite a few bets today, as other than when I went to Huntingdon on Thursday, I haven’t had a bet since Sunday.

A good day on here last Saturday, two football trebles, the higher price one won, and 2 out of three on the other.  Today’s treble is the same as last weeks, in that nothing stood out massive at me, so I’ve picked what I feel are 3 good possibles, but by no means certain.

Really hoping I can keep up the good run of form on the football.  Which stands at 7 out of 10 successful Trebles.

Football Treble - 5/1
MK Dons to beat Oldham (Won)
Sheff Utd to beat Rochdale (Won)
Charlton to beat Walsall (Drew)

HORSERACING: I’ve left alone all the obvious ones/odds-on shots, and tried to pick decent value.

Cheltenham
12.45pm Mossley 9/4 (2nd)
2.30pm Medermit each way 10/1 (2nd)
3.05pm (International Hurdle) Menorah 10/3 (unplaced)

Southwell
1.15pm McConnell 11/8 (unplaced)
2.55pm Stanley Rigby 10/3 (unplaced)

Wolverhampton
8.20pm Loyalty 4/1 (2nd)

Doncaster
2.45pm Kie 7/2 (3rd)

ROONEY scores in the 8-2 win against Arsenal

Welcome to today’s Blog update.  I’ve gone for something different this week, Bets I think that offer good value, and aren’t actual Outright Win bets. The two Man Utd bets are each all one bet, ie. Rooney or Hernandez is part of the same bet.  (all odds: William Hill)

FOOTBALL
Manchester City v. Wigan Athletic
Total Goals, Over 3: 6/5 (City won 3-0, Tevez missed penalty!)

Bolton Wanderers v. Manchester United
Wayne Rooney or Javier Hernandez to Score First: 13/8 (WON – Hernandez after 4 mins)
A cover bet for that could be Man Utd to come from behind and Draw or Win: 15/4

DONCASTER Racecourse - St Leger

DONCASTER:
2.35: York Glory, Place Only – 4 Places: 11/8 (5th!)
3.10 (St Leger): Census, Place Only – 3 Places: 10/11 (5th!)

CURRAGH:
2.40: An Ghalanta, Place Only – 3 Places: 4/5 (WON – finished 3rd)
3.15: Power, Place Only – 3 Places 4/9 (WON – 1st)

Carlton House for Epsom Derby 2011

It’s finally here… Derby Day!  I’ve gone for Carlton House as I can’t see it being beat, and also has Ryan Moore onboard.  Hopefully the injury scare was just that… a scare and doesn’t flare up today.  I’ve sided with Native Khan for e/w value, and Johnny Murtagh riding must be a good thing.  Quality jockey and won the Oaks yesterday at 20/1.  The other two I think could also place are Ocean War and Treasure Beach, 14/1 and 25/1, but I’ll stick with NK.

Here are my Selections for today:

ORIENTAL CAVALIER 3.55 Doncaster (7/1 Each Way) (WON)

ETERNAL HEART – 3.10 Musselburgh (5/1) (WON 11/2)

BOLD BIDDER – 2.05 Musselburgh (7/2) 2nd

LIGHTNING CLOUD – 4.45 Musselburgh (7/4) unplaced

BOOGIE SHOES – 1.40 Epsom (2/1) 3rd

PREMIO LOCO – 2.40 Epsom (7/4) unplaced

CARLTON HOUSE 4.00 Epsom Derby (5/2) 3rd (Native Khan e/w 10/1) unplaced

Also don’t forget there’s another 14 peoples Win and E/W selections for the DERBY HERE

All prices Paddy Power, this morning.
