Doncaster Races

These are just my bets/picks, which I share hoping they’re decent.  If you do any of these on my say so, bet entirely at your own risk, thanks for looking.

Doncaster 3.05 The William Hill Lincoln Handicap

Swiftly Done 25/1
Has had 22 races, finished in the first 3 11 times, winning 1 of 3 Class 2 races.  Won 4 of last 8 races at a mile. Big price but at 4 places each way I’m having a go.  Has won on Soft aswell.  Jockey is a 7lb claimer I’ve never heard of though, so is risky.

Chapter Seven 11/1
Is a C&D winner on Soft ground.  Only had 2 starts on Soft, won both, the other being at York. Graham Lee rides.

These are the 2 I was initially on last week before the meeting was cancelled, and I’m on again today.  Luckly they are still roughly the same prices.

BIG PRICES: I haven’t bet on these two (hope that’s not a mistake), but I think they’re worth a mention: Majestic Myles 40/1, Chosen Character 28/1.

Doncaster 1.20 

Thunderball 14/1
A superb record of 3 wins from 3 races at 6 furlongs on Soft ground.

Spinatrix 10/1
Very consistent.  Form on Soft: 1322. 27% win and 93% place at 6 furlongs.  Again another unknown 7lb claimer onboard.

Doncaster 4.15

The Lockmaster 10/1
This is  a horse I keep an eye on.  Never seems to run a bad race, although just lately hasn’t produced the goods on the all weather since winning at Southwell. Trainer Michael Appleby has confirmed my thoughts to why this is.  Today could be a different matter.  Won 2 of last 3 10 furlong races, all on turf.  Has won here before.

All Weather Competition in association with William Hill

Here are the details for the All Weather Tips Competition.

To be run, as a one off, on Wednesday 28th November.

Who gets the biggest combined odds (same as an accumulator, except you don’t need all your horses to win here, but obviously that’s what you are aiming for) from their selections is crowned the winner. So you can play it safe with short prices and hope most win, or go larger and maybe only need two or three winners. Choice is yours.

This weekend I’ll be keeping faith with horses I’ve backed before.

Today it’s Capone and True To Form, both have been #HorsePointers and both done well at Kempton.  First time I chose True To Form it was after a 200+ day lay off and having first run for new trainer.
At 33/1 he finished 4th. Next time out I was on again and he finished 2nd at 20/1.  Capone won at 11/2, flying home under Hayley Turner.  Both do better at Kempton, but worth a small chance today for low stakes.

They are both stepping up to Listed class today from Class 3, and both at Lingfield.

Capone (8/1): All-weather form is: 35231613131361.  At Lingfield only is: 53133.  Won 3 of last 6 at today’s Distance.

True To Form (12/1): won 2 of 3 races at the Distance on the All-weather. Won a Class 2 in March this year at Kempton, so only stepping up 1 Class from that.  Won 2 of last 3 at Distance.

Also I’m going to have a dabble on Hunt Ball (9/1) in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.  5 places each way. He’s won 3 of 4 races on Ground that’s either Soft or Good to Soft, his Chase form over the extended 2m 4f is: 111111.  His biggest test to date was last time out at the Aintree Grand National meeting, where he finished 3rd in a Grade 1, today is Grade 3.  He won at this year’s Cheltenham Festival which was the first time I’ve backed him.

Two for tomorrow in the Racing Post Hurdle at Cheltenham:

Yet again both up in Class, and both RISKY. The stats are there though, the only problem ‘should’ be whether they can mix it at a higher level.

Dark Lover (12/1): I put this up last time out, when a winner at Cheltenham, same jockey this time.  Hurdle form at 2m 1f: 111 on Ground ranging from Soft to Good.

Hi Dancer (40/1) One of my favourite horses, and he loves going left handed over hurdles.  He’s won his last 4 hurdle races at 2m 1f, also on Ground Soft to Good. Partnered by regular jockey 10lb claimer Craig Gallagher.

Both have won at Class 3, this race is Class 1 (Grade 3)

A bad day yesterday, only one 6/1 winner, 25/1 2nd and 4 other places.

Win = 11%, Place = 28%

Don’t know if it will produce results or not, but I’ve been a lot more selective today, picking less horses and only certain races from different meetings.

NOTTINGHAM (Good to Soft, Soft in Places)

4.45 (Class 4) Stellar Express (3/1) won 2-2 at Course, both G-S, both at Distance, won & placed at Class.

RIPON (Good)

7.40 (Class 4) Galician (2/1) placed on Ground, won 3-4 at Distance, won last 2 handicaps both at Class.  Indego Blues (14/1) 25% win & 75% place at Distance, won on Ground. Takealookatmenow (10/1) 25% win & 75% place at Distance, won on Ground.

8.10 (Class 3) Fast Shot (8/1) 57% place on Ground.  36% win & 64% place at Distance, won 1-1 at Course, placed at Class.

9.10 (Class 5) Mohawk Ridge (6/1) won & 55% place on Ground, won & placed from 3 tries at Distance, 52% place in handicaps, placed at Course & 37% Place at Class.

KEMPTON

7.30 (Class 6) Golden Compass (9/2) won & placed from 2 runs at Course, both at Distance & Class.

8.30 (Class 4) Venetian View (10/1) won 2-2 at Course, won at Distance & Class.

9.00 (Class 4) Khun John (4/1) 33% Place at Distance, 39% Place on All Weather, 45% Place in handicaps, 33% win & 50% place at Course, won & 57% Place at Class.

Bit of a mixed bag today, some pointers, some hearsay and some opinion and through the card at Beverley…

Saturday’s Pointers = 21% Win, 35% Place.

4.25 Curragh Odds-on, but St Nicholas Abbey is way ahead of these.  Plus the only one to win on the ground, won 2 of 3 at Curragh.  Possible danger could be Sharestan, who has won 2 from 2 at the course, maiden and handicap and suffered narrow defeat LTO to Famous Name. (2/5 & 5/2)

J.Geake and K.Scallan have a 75% win rate at Bath 4.15, today run Glens Wobbly. Today’s first time on Soft. (20/1)

2.25 Beverley, the maiden, Richard Fahey is ‘supposed to be keen’ on his runner Fly Fisher. (2/1)

2.55 Beverley First Fast Now has finished 2nd on last 3 visits here, and is 1-1 on today’s ground. (6/1)

Ailsa Craig at Doncaster

3.25 Beverley Ailsa Craig and Amazing Blue Sky have both won at a Class higher than today. Both C+D. (7/2 & 4/1)

4.00 Beverley Toto Skyllachy (no prizes for guessing the sire) and Icy Blue are best on the ground, the former won and placed from 4 tries here. (4/1 & 6/1)

4.30 Beverley None have won at this distance.  Maybeagrey is the only horse to win a handicap (twice).  Neil’s Pride has placed the best on this ground.  (10/1 & 10/3)

5.00 Beverley Lolita Lebron has won and placed twice from 5 races at 7f.  The win being 2 Classes higher than today. (7/1)

5.30 Beverley On old form, top weight Al Muheer is the best horse, place today? Also worth a possible place mention Shadowtime & Smalljohn. (14/1, 16/1 & 18/1)

6.00 Beverley The trainer’s son has napped Red Tyke, who along with Johnny Cavagin are the only 2 horses to have ran at Beverley before.  Both horses are the only ones to win at 7f, and both 1-1. (Both 7/1)

2.15 Kempton One of my follow horses runs today, Rajnagan.  1st and 3rd from last 3 flat races,  You can put a line through his 7th.  Usually a hurdler, winning 4 of 12 at a higher class than today, but this is first time on UK all-weather.  Promising jockey booking: William Buick. (Drifted from 5/1 fav to 8/1)

Classy Lass final race – Kempton Wed 28 March

Classy Lass goes to post

Wednesday evening was Classy Lass‘ last time as a racehorse.  Which came as a massive shock to me, even though we knew it might be beforehand.

From where we were stood and also viewing via the big screen, we thought she had her best race yet travelling well until 2 furlongs out where she then had to be asked to pick up the pace.
Although she did miss the break from the stalls, but immediately caught up and passed two other horses.

She had 6 races, the first of which was a night meeting at Wolverhampton in November.  To a lot of people she would have been classed as a no hoper, but I never saw her that way.  She always tried and I’m proud that she never finished last in all 6 races.

Only two people saw all of her races in person, my dad and me.  Whether it was a freezing and wet night at Dunstall Park, a cold afternoon at Southwell or a 150 mile trip to Kempton Park for an evening meeting, we booked time off work to go see and support her.

I always went to watch her hoping she would place, and even though she never did that didn’t bother me one bit.  It was never about the money either, I just wanted to see her do well.

Some of the prices she went off at to me were disgusting.  500/1 on her third run at Wolverhampton?  When was the last time you saw a horse that price there!?

We always had a little each way hoping that she would prove them wrong.

She’s a lovely horse, not a bit of bother and a pleasure to have been associated with.

I hope once she’s found a new home that they will take very good care of her and that she’s happy in her new role.

A big genuine thank you to Derek & Lindsey Shaw and all their staff for their time, effort and dedication they put in her.

Also a thanks needs to go to Richard and Ownaracehorse for being a good syndicate to be with.

Welcome to my Blog…
Nothing major today, but I’m trying a new format.
If I have any bets today, it will probably be Loyalty.  Below are just my observations.

Big race of the day is the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton…  Last year I backed Nacarat who was 3rd at 5/1.

This year I reckon it’s between him and Planet of Sound.  Both are over 4/1, but I’m leaving them alone in terms of an actual bet.  Nacarat is dropping 2 grades from his last race, which was the King George VI Chase 64 days ago. Nacarat (Won) 9/2

2.50 Lingfield, I think Palace Moon can win again after his easy C+D win earlier this month.  Oasis Dancer is the 6/4 favourite, and this race has only been won by a favourite only once in the past 5 years.

3.20 Lingfield, Another Listed race worth nearly £19,000, same as the 2.50pm.  I’m going to stay loyal, and go with Loyalty for Derek Shaw.  He has won 6 of his 18 all-weather races, aswell as being placed 8 times.  If Loyalty doesn’t win (9/2), I’ll also put forward Tinshu (5/1).

Did You Know:
Paddy Brennan was going to change his name via deed poll for Cheltenham?
Coral approached him to change his name to their founder Joe Coral, so they got the publicity of the name appearing in all the racecards, newspapers etc…
They were then going to place £200 bets on all his rides at the Festival and donate any winnings to Racing Welfare charity…   This was blocked by the BHA!  The minimum Coral were going to donate was £10,000 regardless of any winners for Brennan. #boringbha

Today’s Interesting Stat:
Mark Johnston has trained the winner of the 1.45 Lingfield for the past 3 years!
Today he runs Za’lan.  I’ve just checked the betting and it’s 4/11. #leavealone

The two I did last night were mainly just because I’ve been on them past couple of runs, and they’re both back at Kempton today, both with different jockeys aswell.

2.30 – Vhujon 4/1 (Dominic Fox) 3rd
5.15 – Rightcar 6/1 (Richard Hughes) 3rd

Plus each way Double.

Then today, using a Totally Different method to my normal one (so will either be an improvement or disaster) I’ve picked:

Lingfield
1.05 – Look At Me Now 7/1 (each way) 3rd
1.40 – Royal Bajan 8/1 (each way) unplaced
2.45 – Palace Moon 7/2 WON
(Seek The Fair Land has good course stats to suggest a place today)
