Please note these are just pointers, NOT saying to bet on them just on my say so…

What a strange day yesterday.  Across England and Scotland there were 36 races and only 6 favourites won (4 odds-on).

In form trainer Derek Shaw (last 14 days: 3 winners, 1 2nd 3 3rds from 15 runners) has 6 runners today, 4 at Nottingham & 2 at Wolverhampton.

Noble Mission - pic: MSN Sport

Frankel’s full brother (Noble Mission) makes his 2nd racecourse appearance today, 1.30 Newbury. (11/4)

6.15 Wolverhampton Welcome Approach, 6 times C&D, 4 more than others in that race. (6/1)

Roger Varian sends 1 runner to Wolverhampton, 8.15, Sound Hearts, has 100% record there with Callan onboard, 1-1. (5/1)

4.35 Ayr Kings Grey has placed on his last 6 times, 5 as 2nd. (9/1)

3.10 Newbury Bronterre – Richard Hannon had 4 winners since Wednesday (All Newmarket), and won this 3 of last 5 runnings. (4/6)

3.10 Newbury None of the Greenham runners have won on Soft.

3.25 Ayr (Scottish Grand National) Merigo has 57% win rate, 100% place rate at this course from 7 races, and won this in 2010. (13/2)

John Dunlop sends just the 1 horse to Thirsk, Korngold, 5.00.  Round trip of 560 miles. (9/4)

Philip Makin is 5 wins for 9 rides for John Dunlop… rides Korngold.

3.15 Thirsk Dubai Dynamo is 6lb below last win, and won this time last year at this course.  Currently on long losing run though. (11/1)

Thanks for taking time to look. Yesterday’s pointers returned a fair 25% win rate.

Please note these are just pointers, NOT saying to bet on them just on my say so…

All my own work, so please RT if you use anything below:

Bocamix is the only C&D winner in 6.40 Southwell, winning 2 from 3 there, both with today’s jockey. (6/1)

3.25 Ayr Jim Goldie has won this race the past two years.  Runs Seven Is Lucky today, C&D winner. (7/1)

4.00 Ayr Ferdy Murphy has won this race 3 out of the past 5 years, today: Divers (AP McCoy), who was a NR earlier this week. (11/4)

3.15 Newbury John Gosden has had 12 placed runners in this race for the past 10 years. Manaar (5/1)

3.15 Newbury This race has been won by the favourite 6 times in the past 10 years

4.25 Newbury Popular is a full sister to Midday (11/8)

Mark Johnston who has a 27% win rate this year, has no runners today

Bath Racecourse - pic: Zimbio

Kyllachy Storm has 7 career wins, 5 of which are at today’s track: Bath, 8.00, two on today’s going. (4/1)

6.10 Southwell, Ringa Bay has won last 4 races, and is 1-1 on today’s going. (7/4)

1.35 Newbury Blue Jack (C&D) is the only one to win at Class 1, today is Class 2, not won on soft though. (3/1)

5.25 Newbury, Roberto Pegasus is 1 from 1 on Soft, and is good when opening his seasonal account. (5/1)

Highlighted by @jonnyc79 after Esentepe won on Wednesday: “Esentepe was 4th to Maybe in a Listed race at last year’s Royal Ascot… the 3rd in that race (Self Centered) races today 2.40 Newbury.  A race won in the past by the Hills”.
We’re both risking it each way today. She was 3rd in her only race on today’s soft going. (25/1)

ERICHT - pic: SkySports

For probably the first time ever, a blog update on a Wednesday.
Hoping for a much better day than Saturday.

Time For Rupert is out again, and hopefully with a change of jockey, and a poor race he can finally get back to winning ways.   If not I will finally give up on him.  He’s cost me a fortune, and at odds of 8/13 I’ll never get it all back.

Magnifique Etoile was very impressive last time out winning by 13 lengths at Stratford at the end of October.  Which was the day I picked 4 out of the 7 winners on that card. Odds against today, and I’m hoping for back to back wins.  Kielan Woods takes off 5lb.

I’m going to oppose Montbazon who didn’t impress at Cheltenham, and is another that lost me money.  Today I’m siding with Erict for Henderson/Geraghty, who is a course winner (in a bumper).

Selections:
1.25 Newbury – Ericht 6/5 (3rd)
2.35 Newbury – Time For Rupert 8/13 (Won)
1.45 Bangor – Magnifique Etoile 5/4 (Won)

Thanks for looking.
Prices: Paddy Power this morning.

OVERTURN (left) - pic: Sporting Life

Today’s Bets: Mainly backing horses I follow

HORSE RACING

Newbury
12.20pm Horsham Lad 2/1 (Unseated rider)
I picked him last time out, which was his first time racing under rules, being an ex-point to point horse. Sticking with him today.

3.10pm Hennessey Gold Cup Beshabar 12/1 (5 places each way) (5th)
I was on him when he won the Scottish National. 8/1 I think it was.

Newcastle
2.20pm Overturn 11/4 (WON)
Tough race but the value call I feel. Won his last 2 races, and looking impressive.

Bangor
2.25pm The Weatherman 3/1 (Fell)
Watched his previous race, as Ontoawinner’s Mitchell’s Way was in it.  He looked very good, until The Weatherman went past him near home and pulled away.

Gowran Park
3.05pm Abbey Glen 7/1 each way (unplaced)
Another one I follow, since backing him at 16/1 and he won!  First handicap chase today.

FOOTBALL

Saturday Treble at just under 5/1 (Main Football Bet):
Crawley to beat Rotherham (WON 2-1)
Tottenham to beat West Brom (WON 3-1)
MK Dons to beat Wycombe (WON 4-3)

Speculative 4 fold at 9/1:
Southampton to beat Bristol City (lost)
Southend to beat Bristol Rovers (drew)
Leeds to beat Barnsley (lost)
Sheffield United to beat Chesterfield (won)

Sun 31st July – Newbury, Market Rasen, Chester & GOLDIKOVA

GOLDIKOVA aims for 14th Group 1 win today

Hi, thanks for taking time to read my Blog.  Some Selections for Today’s Racing.  Mainly favourites, but aslong as they win who cares :)

NEWBURY
2.10Rajnagan 13/8 (WINNER!)  Been flying lately over hurdles, winning 3 of 4, latest being 4th in a listed race at Market Rasen, on ground he doesn’t win on (soft).  Now on the flat on Good ground. Big chance, only draw back is it’s an amateur riders race.
4.30Polygon 7/4 (4th) John Gosden & William Buick, plus bottom weight, stepped up in class though.
5.30 -It’s between Mystic Edge (unplaced) 3/1 and Ice Nelly 9/2, with the latter being 7lb less.  But Mystic Edge is Michael Bell & Hayley Turner’s only reason for going there today and is going for the hattrick.  I will side with Mystic Edge – Reverse Forecast could be good.

MARKET RASEN
3.40Executive’s Hall 7/2 (2nd) Working wonders for new trainer, and over a stone less than the other horse I think that could figure: Cat Six.

CHESTER
5.45Oriental Cavalier 8/1, (unplaced) nearly always places here. Each Way
(I’ve removed George Adamson due to now being a non-runner)

DEAUVILLE
2.40Goldikova 8/15 (WINNER!) Won 16 races from 21, 13 being Group 1′s!  She aims to win this race for the 3rd time and add another Group 1 win to her impressive tally.  Timepiece to finish 2nd for the Forecast.

Another horse to note, purely on name only: Usain Colt, 3.20 Newbury.  Not at all saying this is a tip, just a clever play on words.
