2 Winners at York yesterday from 6 races, Easy Terms 14/1 and Laugh Out Loud 7/2. Surprisingly there was no places. Which must be the first time since I’ve been doing these Pointers.
And two 8/1 2nd’s at Newcastle from 4 races.
Today gives us Frankel’s first run as a 4-year-old and also younger brother Noble Mission’s 4th race.
NEWBURY
Not very keen on the Going here… G-S on Round course, Good (G-S in places) on Straight Course.
2.00 (Listed) None are Distance winners. Ibicenco (5/2) Placed in a Group 1. Junoob (12/1) previous Listed winner, 33% Win rate LH.
2.30 (Class 2) Whaileyy (6/1) 75% Place at 6f. Bertiewhittle (9/2) 50% Place on Ground & 40% Place at Class.
3.05 (Class 2) Rewarded (8/1) 2-2 on G-S, 1-1 at Class 2. Expense Claim (7/1) 1-1 on Ground, 1-1 at Distance.
3.40 (Group 1) Don’t need Pointers for this, but: Frankel (1/3) 100% on Good and G-S. Excelebration (11/4) 100% Place at Distance. These 2 are the only Group 1 winners. Both Course winners. (Should be the forecast)
5.20 (Class 4) Depending how much of the straight course is Good, Imelda Mayhem (25/1) has won 2-4 on the Ground. Boudoir (16/1) won 2-3 at 7f. Dare To Dream (12/1) Won and Placed at Course.

Well my two selections for the 2000 Guineas were disappointing. As were all the ‘fancied horses’ other than Camelot.
I did state though that I wasn’t overly confident about Power & Trumpet Major.
I do feel more keen on my two for the Fillies equivilant.
The Godolphin pair of Discourse and Lyric of Light. (Both 10/1)
Maybe ‘should’ win, but at 6/4 I won’t be touching her, when you can do an each way and gain 3 places and still gain more value than her price.

My 2000 Guineas picks were both drawn high, and I’ve looked where all the winners were drawn there on Saturday and they were: 4, 1, 12, 2, 3, 7, & 8… So Bottom half were/is the better.
My Godolphin runners are drawn 10 and 11.
As I’m doing this the night before it’s a bit of a guessing game with the going, today it was supposed to be Good to Soft, so I’ll use that and Good incase there’s a miracle over night…
Good to Soft winners: Only three: Lily’s Angel, Mashoora, Lyric of Light.
Good winners: 14 of the 18 runners.
100% Course winners: Lyric of Light, Discourse, The Fugue, Lightening Pearl.
Group 1 Winners: Lyric of Light, Maybe, Lightening Pearl, La Collina, Nayarra.
None of the fillies in the field have won at over a mile.
American Bred horses have won 4 of the last 10… Only USA bred this year: Discourse.
One strong Trend is born before April 1st, which rules out 8 runners.

A Sire I rate Kyllachy, has 3 runners out on Sunday, one at each meeting:
3.25 Hamilton Free Zone Has won his last three 5 furlong races, and has finished 1st and 2nd from 2 races on the ground. (3/1)
2.55 Salisbury Tassel steps up a class, but won his first race impressively at Newmarket last month.
4.25 Newmarket First time out for Michael Bell Kimberella.

Fazza’s Sire Sulamani (who was Godolphin’s 100th Group/Grade 1 winner), has one runner out on Sunday, at Hamilton, Jonny Delta. Has been 2nd on 1 attempt on the ground. (7/1)

2000 Guineas:
Not the strongest of races this year. A couple of the runners have only previously won Class 4, 5 or 6.
Only 3 have won a Group 1: Power, French Fifteen & Camelot.
If the Going truly is Good to Soft, 7 of the 18 runners have won on this ground.
Only 3 are Course winners: Red Duke, Trumpet Major & Coupe De Ville.
My Picks, not overly confident are: Trumpet Major & Power, both drawn high, (both 10/1).

Sir Henry Cecil only has 1 runner today at Newmarket 4.55 Noble Mission (2/1).
He also only has 1 runner at Goodwood (2.15) today Vita Nova (4/7).
4.55 Newmarket Mister Music has won and placed at a higher level than others in this race (8/1).
4.05 Goodwood Barefoot Lady takes a big step down in Class (6/4). First race though for 245 days.
I prefer Esentepe (4/1).
4.20 Newmarket Sans Loi record in Class 2 is 1st and 2nd from 3 runs (11/1).
Hayley Turner goes to Doncaster (8.00) for one ride Silverheels (7/2), after riding at Newmarket today, and back down there for tomorrow. Has odds-on fav to beat though.
Ladbrokes spokesman on ATR this morning said they’re happy to lay anything except Camelot (15/8).
Super Sire Galileo only has 6 of his progeny running today… Two being the Sir Henry runners mentioned above.
Big Mover: Pearl Ice 14/1 into 9/2, 7.25 Doncaster.
Dunaden
7.25 Doncaster Fast Shot‘s form at the course is 1st & 3rd, from 2 runs (10/1).
The day’s top earner Dunaden has won over £3million in prize money, compared to the fav in his race who has only won £330,000 (11/2).
Margot Did is 3 wins from 4 on Good to Soft or Soft. 3.45 Newmarket (8/1).

Kieron Fallon rides at Newmarket today, and then goes to Wolverhampton tonight for the last two races…
Ripon 2.10 – Tim Easterby has won this race 4 out of the last 5 years, and 5 times in the last 10 years… runs: Annie Gogh (9/4)
And he’s the top trainer at the course.
Ripon 2.10 – The only horse in this maiden with previous race experience is Lady Poppy, who was 7th in the Brocklesby at Doncaster 19 days ago. She is by a sire I rate: Kyllachy, and her trainer George Moore has 6 placed runners in the past 10 runnings of this race. (4/1)
Another Kyllachy Maiden runner today: Tassel for Richard Hannon at Newmarket 1.50 (Evens)
Crius who has won 3 of his 5 races, has won both of his Newmarket ones. 4.10 (4/1)

Twice Over has won 3 of his 5 races at Newmarket, used to running in Group 1′s and today is only a Group 3. (6/5)

George Moore‘s only other runner at Ripon, 3.55, is the unbeaten Just Fabulous, who won LTO on today’s soft going. (15/2)

These are just my views, and no offence is intended…
Hunt Ball:
The Racing Post and Racing For Change announced their 5 contenders for Jumps Horse of the Year yesterday. All 5 ARE worthy contenders, but they are all obvious choices. Big Bucks 17 straight wins is a huge feat, but he receives enough recognition for his achievements. Out of the 5 listed I would rather Synchronised win it, due to his Gold Cup win, and the fact he’s no longer with us.
I went into detail last night on Twitter why I feel Hunt Ball should have been included, so I won’t go over all that again, but today Racing For Change (via Love The Races) released a statement stating why ‘the most improved horse in training’ was omitted from the list of nominees.
If you read between the lines (as I always do as I’m cynical at times) and this is just my view, not saying I am right, their reason comes across as because he’s not with either Paul Nicholls or Nicky Henderson, which was obvious any way. The way they worded it was: horses proven at the top level in Grade 1′s. Who dominates these races every year? Mr Henderson and Mr Nicholls.

It was with great joy today that the Press Association shared the news we all were hoping for and were unsure as to whether it would ever happen… The Mighty Frankel, the world’s best horse, will continue racing after his injury scare was just that – a scare.
I really hope this is genuinely the case and he truly is injury free. We don’t want another Kauto Star case where a horse at the top of his code gets injured away from the racecourse and then goes racing when supposedly 100% ready, only to pull up a half a circuit in to his next race (at Cheltenham) and then have doubts hanging over him, whether they will be retired.
Frankel is in with a chance of running in the Lockinge at Newbury, which last week was out of the question. I feel this race should be bypassed, and not rush him, so they know for sure he really is unscathed. He can then make his racecourse reappearance, at the age of 4, at Royal Ascot a month later. Let’s not forget he has a 100% win rate, winning all 9 of his races. Is it worth risking this impeccable record, aswell as his stud value and of course the horses well-being, just for the sake of one race?

Esentepe:
A 33/1 winner for me today, or SP of 28/1 in the days big race, the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket. This horse should never have been this price for this race in my opinion. I’m not going to get in to specifics, but there were a lot of reasons, most form based, why I went with Esentepe today. One stat I will share is that she’s now won 2 races, the jockey on both occasions: Pat Dobbs.
I chose two in this race, both each way, and both were Middleham Park Racing’s runners. Due to their prices and not the ‘hype horses’ in the race I didn’t expect too many to take much notice, but I did share them on Twitter, stating they were my only two bets today. Lily’s Angel came 3rd, 9/1.
This is the second 33/1 winner I’ve put up in the past month, having had Countrywide Flame at that price at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Placepot:
This is something I very rarely do. I did have a go last week at Southwell, and got 4 out of 6. Yesterday I went through the cards at Southwell and Kempton, not intentionally trying for the Placepot, but after the last race at both meetings, the thought came across that had I done the Southwell one, I would have got it up, (paying £29 to £1) and then was only 1 away from getting the Kempton one up (£50+ to £1).
Today the Beverley and Newmarket Placepots paid over £5500 (to a £1). To me that’s incredible. The equivalent of a 5499/1 winner, without necessarily having any winners.
For those unaware what the Placepot is, it’s the first 6 races at a meeting. You pick 1 horse per race and simply have to get it to place, ie: mainly finish in the top 3, or 7 or less runners the first 2. You could I suppose relate it to the lottery in a way, 6 horses, or 6 numbers. The only downside as such, is you never know until the last race what you are likely to win, due to it being a pool. So say every favourite wins at said meeting, the payout will be a lot less than say big price winners. Due to the fact it would have been easier to predict and more people will have got all 6 of their horses placed.

Here are the details for the Cheltenham Festival 2012 Competition:
William Hill have kindly extended their support of my competitions by providing a superb First and Second Prize of FREE BETS, after also providing the prize for the Breeders Cup Competition last November.
We also have some other super prizes kindly supplied by: Love The Races, Newmarket Racecourse and Ontoawinner.

The Competition is open to everyone who follows me on Twitter and Retweets the Tweet that will have the link to all the entries a week on Monday (12th March).
The format we will use is the same as the last competition I ran, the Kempton one – which was just for fun… The winner that day was @h103efa, who turned his £100 into £405.

It’s Saturday, so means a Blog update…
A disaster last week with the Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe, I correctly stated that Sarafina, Workforce and So You Think wouldn’t win, but then neither did the two I picked each way: Hiruno D’Amour and Nakayama Festa. Both were unplaced.
On to today, rather than have a lot of bets, I’ve gone big on Power, had a small each way on Keys, and done a Football Treble.
Newmarket:
3.10pm: Power, 100/30 (2nd, 1/2 length… Jockey at fault)
3.50pm: Keys, 14/1 each way (unplaced – never in it)
Be interesting to see which stall the winner come out of for this (Cesarewitch). The stats say best drawn 12 or less.
Football:
Not had a multiple come up for a while, but I go with this today:
Crawley, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday TREBLE, pays over 4/1 (ALL 3 WON – £££)

MARKET RASEN Racecourse
Update:
Not the best day at all. Two horses I picked out but didn’t put on here, or do in singles, both won (Lightening Pearl & Book’em Danno). The danger I thought in Pepper Lane’s race won (Advanced)… One of my other ‘follow horses’ got 2nd: Dubai Dynamo at Chester. Football accumulator only had 3 wins, and Rooney isn’t even playing!
To sum it up: my betting account is empty and I’m not impressed.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I’ve covered most meetings today. I had 3 bets this week, resulting in 2 wins (Hazy Tom 11/8, Shouda 7/2) and a 3rd, but Saturday racing is always much harder.
MARKET RASEN:
1.50 Pollen Jock (7/1 each way) is a horse I follow, and he has good form here. Second on his last effort, so drop in trip today should be a wise move. Main danger could be Businessmoney Judi. (5th, should of got 3rd)
2.20 – A tough race, I could pick 3. But I will stay loyal to another horse I follow: Rajnagan (7/1 each way). Finished 4th last time here, in a Listed race. (3rd, so got each way money)
NEWMARKET:
3.10 I’m guessing most will think Sahpresa will win this. I’ve opted for Alanza (7/2). Big step up in class, but John Oxx has 100% record in England so far this year. The extra furlong should help. And the horse hasn’t been suplemented just for the fresh air. (6th, never in it)
3.50 (Cambridgeshire) I’ll take a chance on Questioning (10/1 each way) Gosden has won this race 3 out of last 5 years, although the horse hasn’t won on grass, but has been placed 3 out of last 5 races, 2nd to King Torus latest. (near last)
HAYDOCK:
2.15 You will see there’s a theme developing today… Kenyan Cat (13/2), another horse I follow. There’s nearly 40 horses on my ‘follow list’. I haven’t picked them today just for that reason. I do think they have a chance of winning. (2nd, short head)
RIPON:
4.15 I chose Pepper Lane (6/1) last week for the Ayr Gold Cup, the ground (mud) didn’t suit that day, but today she’s back at Ripon where she does well. So I’m sticking with her for today. It’s risky though as she’s carrying a LOT of weight. (unplaced)
No bet, but I’d like to see Fazza win the 3.45.
NAVAN:
4.25 Loosen My Load (4/6) should win this. Best horse by far. (WON)
CHESTER:
5.20 Barons Spy (12/1 each way). Won once at the course, and 7 times at the distance. Finishes well. (unplaced)

I did a 7-fold accumulator on Tuesday. I feel all the teams should win. But chances of all 7? Very slim. 86/1 in fact. You never know though. The teams are:
