Wed 23rd May – Southwell Pointers

May 23, 2012 Leave a comment

A good day yesterday at Nottingham. 28/1 Winner Bitaphon, Placed: 14/1, 10/1, 7/1 & 4/1 from the 10 highlighted horses.

Win = 10%, Place 50%

I can’t see two days in a row like that, but I’ll do my usual analysis and try and pick out some winners and/or decent places.

I’ll try the All-Weather today, which is the first time I’ve tried this approach on that, as normally only put up turf meetings.

SOUTHWELL

2.20 (Class 4) Abi Scarlet (11/8) 2-2 here and 40% Win & Place at 6f plus won at Class.  Reve Du Jour (7/2) 67% Place from 6 runs here and won 2 of last 3 at Distance, 71% Place in handicaps. Both C+D winners.

Tues 15th May – Beverley Pointers

May 15, 2012 Leave a comment

Abidhabidubai – pic: Avaskeg

A good day on Saturday with the Ascot Pointers, 3 winners from the first 3 races (4/7, 6/1 & 11/1). Also had placed: 12/1 & 14/1. But then nothing for the other 3 races.

Win = 50%, Place = 31%
Or 18% win if you include all horses mentioned that day.

There were no pointers yesterday, but I did have a quick look at Redcar and highlighted Zomerlust at Redcar on Twitter, won at 5/2.

BEVERLEY

As I said on Saturday I will by bypassing Maiden races, but I thought it’s worth mentioning the 2.00 was won last year by Alan McCabe’s Caspar Netscher.

2.30 (Class 6) None of these are prolific winners, with only 1 of the 10 winning.  El Mcglynn (4/1) is the only winner and 33% place, but they were on All-weather.  Also finished no worse than 3rd from 5 races at Class 6.  Red Shadow (4/1) has placed both times at the Course.

Shawkantango

3.00 (Class 5) Lady Kildare (20/1) won last 2 on Good.  Diamond Blue (10/3) won on the Ground and 75% Place at the DistanceShawkantango (6/1) 60% place (inc. 2 wins) from last 5 races, D.Swift back onboard and he’s been on for 2 of the 3 recent wins.

3.30 (Class 6) A Handicap, but really a Maiden, so N/A

4.00 (Class 4) Abidhabidubai (7/2) has 50% win and 100%  place from 4 races on Good, won 4 of 7 at Distance. 2nd on all 3 visits to the Course.  Polish World (12/1) won 4 of 9 on Good, but not recently, but has won last 2 at Beverley.

4.00 (Class 5) Maiden N/A

5.00 (Class 5) None have won on the Ground, but Dorry K (9/1) has won on G-S.  Quixote (12/1) Placed last twice at Distance, and placed in last 5 handicaps but on All-weather.  Both recently won a Class 5.  No horse in this race has won right-handed.

On paper this doesn’t look an inspiring day’s racing, and I’m not overly confident, but as always would like some winners.

Please note these are just my pointers, NOT saying to bet on them just on my say so…

Ownaracehorse Derek Shaw Stable Visit – Sun 13th May

May 13, 2012 Leave a comment

Miss Starry Eyed

Ownaracehorse had their annual Stable Visit to Derek Shaw‘s today, and luckily the weather was perfect.

There was a big turnout of shareholders to see the horses they had with Derek Shaw, which are: Dancing Ellie Mae, Miss Starry Eyed and Prickles.

All three horses were paraded, and then it was on to the gallops to see them do some light work.  After this Derek and Lyndsey Shaw gave us free rein to have a wander around the yard and see the other horses they have in training.

Another top day out.  Well organised by Richard, and I’d like to thank him and the Shaw’s for their time.

To make our day even better we went to see Classy Lass in the field before we left.   She looked to be enjoying her new life, whilst awaiting a new home.  In the field she has a new friend T-Rex and they appeared to be very friendly.  She still looks as good as ever.

Fazza wins at Thirsk – Sat 12th May

May 13, 2012 Leave a comment

Shane B. Kelly & Fazza after the race

Click HERE to Watch the Race on Sporting Life.

What a night…  We travelled the usual 100 miles or so North to go racing, and it was well worth it.

Super Fazza came from second last to finish first!

He was slow away from the stalls and travelled in the rear, but jockey Shane B. Kelly, who also rode Fazza for the first time last Wednesday at Pontefract, never panicked and just sat and bided his time.

Creeping down the inside rail, before switching Fazza inside slightly and then he pressed the “turbo button.”

Race Result

Niall said to me a few month’s ago at Edwin’s Stable Visit, that Fazza isn’t the biggest of horses, but his legs move quick.  How right he was, as once in the lead the race was put to bed quite easily.

This was his second race in 10 days, and he went two places better than last Wednesday.

Fazza has now won this race at Thirsk for the past 2 years.

It’s an amazing experience to see ‘your’ horse win, and in such circumstances where you thought he was too far back and the gaps wouldn’t be there.

Fazza takes the lead

One thing I do know for sure though, is this is one horse who never gives up.  I’ve now been to watch him three times and on all three occasions he has given his all.

I’m throughly delighted for everyone involved: Trainer Edwin Tuer, the Ontoawinner Syndicate who do such a good job and the stable lass pictured above.

OntoaWINNER.net sure did live up to their name for me.  Many thanks lads!

You to could join a friendly, passionate winning team, for a lot less than you think, check out their website! www.ontoawinner.net

Wed 9th May – Chester Horseracing Pointers

May 9, 2012 Leave a comment

Harrison’s Cave – pic: Kacey Toler

Only one winner last night at Catterick (Green Howard 8/1), but also got 2nd in all 6 races, plus a couple of 3rds.  Out of 12 horses mentioned 10 placed (inc. winner)… Place prices: 12/1, 10/1, 8/1, 5/1, 4/1, 3/1, 9/4, Evens.

Yesterday’s Win rate = 8%, Place = 83%

On to today, CHESTER, where the first four races are live on Channel 4.

1.35 Chester Tharawal Lady is the only one to win on Soft, and 1-1 at 5f, Class 5.  Dreamy Ciara won 2 races at 5f, both left handed (which Chester is).  Just Past Andover won last time out on Heavy, Class 5 at 5f. (11/4, 25/1, 7/2)

2.05 Chester Sorry for mentioning a lot in this race, but there’s a lot of factors -Soft winners: Cubanita (+ 2nd), Cockney Sparrow & InchinaInchina won at a higher class than her competitors.  Absolute Crackers won lto, and has been 2nd in a Listed race before.  Betterbetterbetter is the only Distance winner, O’Brien won this race 3 out of last 4 years. (Cub 4/1, Cockney16/1, Inchina 9/1, Abs 6/1, Better 15/8)

2.35 Chester (Cup) 8 horses have won on Soft, Ajaan has won 3 of 7 and is only 1 of 2 to win at the Distance.  Kiama Bay won on Soft and 1st and 2nd at Chester. Never Can Tell the only Distance winner and Course form is: 7121.  Harrison’s Cave won on Soft & Heavy and A.O’Brien is 4-4 here with R.Moore.  (33/1, 25/1, 8/1, 8/1)

3.05 Chester Foxy Music won on Soft & Heavy, and recent Course form is 121.  Dickie´s Lad has been 2nd in his last 4 LH races.  Tax Free 60% place rate at 5f, from 30 races, and to me on Class stats is the best horse.  None of the runners in this race are prolific winners at this Class. (10/1, 5/1, 8/1)

Borderlescott – pic: Sporting Life

3.40 A Maiden and none are unraced.  Not much to go on.  Finity Run was 2nd at the Distance on Heavy. (8/1)

4.15 Chester Borderlescott (65% Place rate LH) won on Soft & Heavy before.  Noble Storm won 3 of last 4 LH, and 2 of 4 in May and just ticks the Distance box ahead of the rest.  These two head the Class. (8/1, 3/1)

4.45 Chester Gabrial The Great the only one to win on Soft, but 8 are untried.  Juno The Muffinman won at the Distance, and 4th on Heavy. (9/2, 14/1)

The Draw usually plays a big part here, and 3 of the above are drawn in Stall 1: Tharawal Lady, Cubanita & Tax Free.

Tues 8th May Horseracing – Catterick Pointers

May 8, 2012 1 comment

Dontpaytheferryman – pic: Brian Ellison

A very good day yesterday with the Beverley horses… 4 winners (14/1, 7/1, 4/1, 4/1), and 3 placed (7/1, 7/2, 2/1).

Which worked out to = Win 28%, Place 50% (as I mentioned two horses in some races).
Or 57% win for the 4 from 7 races.

As for today, with the “expectation to do as good today” and with over 40 new followers, the pressure seems like it’s on.

Last time I had a day as good as that, funnily enough it was a May Bank Holiday, last year at Towcester & Leicester, 7 winners, some placed, 2 forecasts, link here.

I’ve chosen to go through the Catterick card today, mainly as a horse I follow is there aswell as one I have a small share in.

6.10 Catterick Throwing Roses was 2nd on her only previous start and a Class higher than today, beaten by a short head at Ripon.  Only concern is that was Soft, today is Good to Soft. (Evens)

6.40 Catterick A LOT of form for this race: Eijazz has won 7 of 14 Claimers, plus placed 4 times. Has 46% place rate on left handed tracks.  26 times at Catterick, won 7 plus 9 places = 62% place record here.  67% place record in May.
Hidden Glory
has won only start at this Class, and has won twice 3 Classes higher.  Hidden Glory & Dontpayferryman the only ones to win at the Distance.  Dontpayferryman has won his last 2 flat races at Class5, but only 2 from 17 at Class 6.
Dimashq
won 3-6 on Good to Soft. (Eijazz 4/1, Hidden 7/2, Dont 5/2, Dim 33/1)

Dubara Reef – pic: allthoroughbred.com

7.10 Catterick Solar Spirit won 2 (both today’s distance) from 7 here, plus 3 places.  Green Howard 1-1 at course, and won last 3 LH, steps up a Class today. Won last 2 at 7f. (12/1 & 7/1)

7.40 Catterick Dubara Reef is 2 from 3 on the Ground, 80% place in May.  Pocket Too has won at a much higher level and longest traveller. (7/1 & 3/1)

8.10 Catterick Maiden so not much to go on… Pursuit of Passion‘s form is 4th and nowhere.  4th was at this distance, on this ground & Class. (10/3)

8.40 Catterick Cross of Lorraine is the only one to win on Good to Soft, also a course winner.  Top weight First in Command won his last three 5f races, all on LH courses. (16/1 & 5/1)

Please note these are just my pointers, NOT saying to bet on them just on my say so…
