Fazza wins at Thirsk – Sat 12th May

What a night…  We travelled the usual 100 miles or so North to go racing, and it was well worth it.

Super Fazza came from second last to finish first!

He was slow away from the stalls and travelled in the rear, but jockey Shane B. Kelly, who also rode Fazza for the first time last Wednesday at Pontefract, never panicked and just sat and bided his time.

Creeping down the inside rail, before switching Fazza inside slightly and then he pressed the “turbo button.”

Race Result

Niall said to me a few month’s ago at Edwin’s Stable Visit, that Fazza isn’t the biggest of horses, but his legs move quick.  How right he was, as once in the lead the race was put to bed quite easily.

This was his second race in 10 days, and he went two places better than last Wednesday.

Fazza has now won this race at Thirsk for the past 2 years.

It’s an amazing experience to see ‘your’ horse win, and in such circumstances where you thought he was too far back and the gaps wouldn’t be there.

Fazza takes the lead

One thing I do know for sure though, is this is one horse who never gives up.  I’ve now been to watch him three times and on all three occasions he has given his all.

I’m throughly delighted for everyone involved: Trainer Edwin Tuer, the Ontoawinner Syndicate who do such a good job and the stable lass pictured above.

OntoaWINNER.net sure did live up to their name for me.  Many thanks lads!

Fazza & Paul Mulrennan

Fazza had his first race of the season yesterday in the John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship Handicap.

This was the first time I’d seen him race since winning the share in him through Ontoawinner‘s competition a couple of months ago.

We were very pleased with his effort, being up with the leaders for most of the race before tiring 2 furlongs out.

That was his first outing for 178 days, so hopefully next time his fitness will have improved and he will finish in the placings.

Thank you to Ontoawinner for organising a very good day out.

Ailsa Craig at Doncaster Lincoln Meeting – 31st March

Ailsa Craig after the race

Yesterday was the start of the Flat season for 2012, and the big race to signify this is the William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.

The race was won by Brae Hill, ridden by Tony Hamilton, who was also the jockey for Ontoawinner’s Ailsa Craig in the 4.55pm 1m 2f Handicap.

It was a chilly day, but there were plenty of racegoers out in force, many of whom must have been freezing with their choice of attire.  Whereas watching on At The Races today it’s the total opposite, sunny and a lot less people there.

Ailsa Craig in the parade ring

Ontoawinner very kindly invited me to join them as one of their guests for the day.  We spent most of the afternoon in the Owners & Trainers bar, but I went out to watch every race rather than watch on the TV’s in there.

Betting wise I didn’t have any winners, but when you see the prices of them I’m guessing not many people did.
It was definitely a bookies day.  I always think Doncaster is like that.  Always big priced winners.

It was still a very good experience though, the Ontoawinner team are very good company and make you feel welcome.  If you are debating whether to take the step into racehorse ownership they are a worthy Syndicate option to consider.  They’ve only been going since May last year and had a tremendous season – ending with 6 winners and 17 placed from only 6 horses.  They start this campaign with 10 horses and aim to achieve even more success.

Ailsa Craig strides home

As for Ailsa Craig, things didn’t go her way.  She tired on the home straight and finished near the back, but it was her first race for nearly 6 months, so will come on for the run.

She did win something though: Best Turned Out!  Which speaking to the lads yesterday is something she regularly gets awarded.
Her trainer Edwin Tuer, won the same award at Doncaster today aswell with his only runner The Blue Banana.

It was a very good day out, and thank you to Ontoawinner for their kind hospitality. If you would like to experience a day as an owner and all the benefits that go with it on a try before you buy basis, then enter their competition every time Ailsa Craig races, as they hold a prize draw for free owners badges!

Stable Visit to Edwin Tuer’s (Ontoawinner) Sun 25 March

March 25, 2012 1 comment

Fazza & Ailsa Craig

Today we went to see Ontoawinner‘s horses they have with trainer Edwin Tuer, in North Yorkshire.

The weather was quite unbelievable.  All the way up the A1 it was thick fog with very poor visibility, yet as soon as we went on the A19 it was like a summers day!

We were met at Edwin’s by Niall, Chris & Sally, and Niall showed us their horses.  They were very friendly and welcoming as were Mr Tuer and his wife.

It was very good to see Fazza for the first time, he’s only a small horse, but as pointed out by Niall “his legs move quick” which is the main thing. :)
Would be brilliant if he could add another win to his tally this season.

Ailsa Craig surprised me a little.  I’d only seen the picture of her on her Twitter profile, and not at all being disrespectful, she is a real eyecatcher in the flesh.
All being well she will be racing on Saturday at Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting.

Sally Friday

We saw new horse Sally Friday put through her paces by Blake on the gallops and she looked very good.  She will also be in action soon, so see their website for share details.

All of Mr Tuer’s horses were very approachable, and loved receiving a bit of attention and posing for photos.

Many thanks to all concerned for a thoroughly enjoyable visit.  Hopefully all three horses can win for you this flat season.

My Racehorse Shares: Classy Lass, Back To Paris and Fazza

March 1, 2012 Leave a comment

Just thought I’d do a Blog page for my racehorses all on one page.  I am only a very minor shareholder in them all, but I am still proud to be associated with them.

Classy Lass (trained by Derek Shaw) is through OwnARacehorse,

Back To Paris (trained by Philip Kirby) also through OwnARacehorse,

Fazza (trained by Edwin Tuer) my newest addition, via winning a share through a competition run by OnToAWinner

CLASSY LASS

Classy Lass

Description: 3yo Bay Filly
Pedigree: Trade Fair – Kythia(IRE) (Kahyasi)
Form: 0000-5
Wins Runs Win% Plc% A/E £1 Win ROI%
0 5 0.0% 0.0% n/a £-5.00 -100%

Horse Classy Lass has not had any winners on the all weather. Thus a summary report of the performance can not be generated.

Back To Paris

Description: 10yo Bay Gelding
Pedigree: Lil’s Boy(USA) – Alisco(IRE) (Shalford(IRE))
Form: 546240-313
Wins Runs Win% Plc% A/E £1 Win ROI%
1 9 11.1% 44.4% n/a £6.00 67%

• Back To Paris(IRE) is a very profitable horse on the turf. Backing all his runners to a £1 stake in the past 10 years has returned a profit of £6 (67%).
• The strike rate of 11.1% is just better than average. There is little information to go on for the past 12 months. He has only had 3 runs during that time.
• The horse last won a race on the flat turf 243 days ago. The longest losing streak was 7 in April 2010
• His most recent biggest win was in July 2011 where he won at 14-1.
• He is much better on left handed courses and much better in middle distance races. He has a strong preference for firmish ground.
• 100% of Back To Paris(IRE)’s winners have come from one jockey: Miss M Mullineaux.
Stats: Turf only.  Jumps placings: 80/0F/P4F-73PU4125

Fazza

Description: 5yo Chestnut Gelding
Pedigree: Sulamani(IRE) – Markievicz(IRE) (Doyoun)
Form: 02066641141040203
Wins Runs Win% Plc% A/E £1 Win ROI%
3 17 17.6% 41.2% 1.59 £10.00 59%

• Fazza is a very profitable horse on the turf. Backing all his runners to a £1 stake in the past 10 years has returned a profit of £10 (59%). Not surprisingly his A/E value stat is a respectable 1.59 which indicates that punters very much underbet him.
• The strike rate of 17.6% is much better than average. There has been an improvement in the past 12 months. The strike rate for the past year is 25.0%.
• The horse last won a race on the flat turf 262 days ago. The longest losing streak was 7 in September 2009
• His most recent biggest win was in May 2011 where he won at 14-1.
• He is much better on straight courses, performs better up north. He does well when the going is on the softish side.
• 100% of Fazza’s winners have come from one jockey: T Hamilton.
Stats: Turf only.
